The InnoRenew Coe, Host Institute
The InnoRenew CoE is a young, independent research institute, formally established in 2017, employing more than 50 persons with an investment of 2 M€ in laboratory equipment. The InnoRenew CoE’s focus is conducting research on renewable materials and sustainable buildings and transferring scientific knowledge into industrial practice. The InnoRenew CoE is an international reference in the field of wood in the built environment. It cooperates closely with industry and offers excellent facilities with a full range of state-of-the-art laboratory equipment to process, characterize, and measure properties of materials such as wood, polymers, composites, natural fibres, and molecules. The new building facilities currently under construction will result in a hybrid combination structure equipped with a smart management system, low energy, and airtight. The interior design will be based on results of the institute’s current research regarding the amount of wood needed for optimal effects on human well-being. For the FAÇADE project, the building will provide an ideal environment to carry out on-site weathering as it will be located close to the sea with an average of more than six hours of sunlight per day during the entire year.
